Dakota Fanning unlocks a mysterious door in her home and discovers a parallel reality.

Marisa Tomei is talking all about why baring it all is actually much more difficult than it seems.

In Tomei’s latest flick, The Wrestler, she plays Cassidy, a working mother and stripper, a role she prepared for by talking to a bunch of different dancers.

She tells Premiere.com: “It wasn’t like I sat and had big interviews with them or anything; we just went out, had some drinks, went to a bunch of clubs, watched a lot of dances, got some dances, brought some guy friends with me, brought some girl friends with me.”

Tomei adds, “It’s like anything, any subculture. You get in there, and it’s all individuals.”

Aside from the mental research, Tomei put her own twists on costume design aspects for the dance numbers—in which she had to be topless.

And while G-strings and nipple rings (which Tomei called the “most fun”) may have helped add effect, it was mastering the dance routines that was the toughest part for her.

“It’s really physically hard, “ Tomei says. “Don’t discount that. Really physically hard. That pole work is crazy hard; to be really good on that pole you have to be really strong.”

And all that work apparently paid off.

Tomei just earned a Golden Globe nom for Best Supporting Actress for her Wrestler role.

The Golden Globes air Sunday, January 11th.
